Gift Planning Staff

Linda Speed, J.D., Vice President, Development and Stewardship

Linda Speed [lindas (at) cflouisville.org] joined the Community Foundation of Louisville in 2003 as the first Director of Gift Planning. She currently serves as Vice President of Development and Stewardship.  She is a graduate of the University of Kentucky and the Vanderbilt University School of Law (J.D., 1987).

In addition to the private practice of law in Kentucky and Tennessee, Linda has over 15 years of experience in public service and gift administration for academic and nonprofit organizations, as well as state government.   Her work experience includes serving as Vice President of Gift Administration at a $2 billion national foundation, as well as seven years at the Brandeis School of Law at the University of Louisville where she was the first Director of the Public Service Program.  Immediately prior to joining the Foundation, Linda was the Planned Giving Manager for a local $12 million nonprofit organization. 

Linda’s primary responsibility is to develop relationships with professional advisors in the Metro Louisville area and inform them about the services of the Foundation. She also works with advisors and their clients to establish lasting gifts that will fulfill each client’s charitable dreams and improve our community.

Linda is immediate past President of the Kentuckiana Planned Giving Council and is its current Program Chair.  She is the Program Chair and serves on the Board of the Fund Raising Executives of Metro Louisville.  She is a member of the Louisville, Kentucky, Tennessee and American Bar Associations, the Women Lawyers Association of Jefferson County and the Estate Planning Council in Louisville.

Steven D. Milburn, Ed.D., Director of Development

 

Steve joined the Community Foundation on March 8, 2010 as the Director of Development on the Development and Stewardship team.

 

Steve has over 10 years experience in advancement work in alumni affairs and in fundraising at the University of Louisville and most recently as the Director of Development for Student Affairs at the University of South Florida. Prior to that he worked in student affairs at the University of Louisville, was a high school teacher and coach in southern Indiana and worked for the YMCA of Greater Louisville.

 

A native of Louisville, Steve graduated from Atherton High School in 1968 and has a bachelor’s degree in English and two master’s degrees in education from U of L and a doctorate in higher education administration from the University of Kentucky. 

 

During his career, Steve has held offices in several professional associations in higher education, including serving as the President of the National Association of Academic Advisors for Athletics in 1990. He has also served on the board of the Fundraising Executives of Metro Louisville.
