Announcing the Rubbertown-Shively Class Scholarship
Applications are now available for the Rubbertown-Shively Class Scholarship Fund. The permanent endowment fund was established this fall at the Community Foundation with a distribution of $482,863.00 from the E. I. duPont de Nemours & Co., Inc. and DuPont Performance Elastomers, LLC as the result of a class action legal settlement. The new endowment fund will provide scholarships through a competitive grant process to help defray the educational expenses for several areas: 1) undergraduate study at a two-year or four-year college or university; 2) for vocational, technical or other post-secondary educational courses; 3) for training that will help the recipient attain a certificate or degree, or help them sustain or expand their employability; and 4) for any graduate level of study. Applicants may be part-time or full-time students. In the first year, a total of $18,000 is available to be awarded for the Rubbertown-Shively Class Scholarship Program. The number of scholarships and the dollar amount of each scholarship awarded will depend on the number of qualifying applications that are received. The scholarships will be payable during the 2010-2011 academic year. Primary Qualifications In order to apply for a Rubbertown-Shively Class Scholarship, a prospective applicant must be a high school graduate or have a GED certificate and must reside in Louisville at an address that is located within a two-mile radius of 4200 Camp Ground Road, the local plant site of E. I. duPont de Nemours & Co. Click here to view a map showing the defined area of eligible Rubbertown and Shively residences. It is important to note that not all of the addresses within the defined area are eligible to apply for these scholarships because some residents chose not to participate in the class action settlement. All current and future occupants of the addresses that did not participate in the settlement will not be eligible to apply for scholarships from this fund. How to Apply 1.
